White Lake
This weekend I’m fishing my second SEBO tournament of this season. I am fishing with a friend and fellow competitor from the BAA series Tony. This was our first tournament that we fished in together. We were hoping for a good day.
The day started out with a bang. We caught bass after bass, cast after cast. The only problem is that they were all 11-inch clones. I have never seen a lake, like White Lake, to produce so many clone type bass. All the bass we seemed to catch were the same size. That’s good from a lake’s productivity point of view but not from a tournament point of view.
Most of our fish came on a tiki stick fished texas rigged either weightless or with 1/8th oz finesse weight. It was fun fishing because there was never any time to get bored with not catching any fish. We ended up with our limit of 5 fish just under 12 lbs. The winner had over 19 lbs.
Although, we didn’t win, I sure did learn a little more about that lake. It also prepared me for what I might be up against come Oct 1-2 when we have our BAA classic on this same body of water.
The day was not without a moment of frustration. My partner forgot his worm bag on the back deck. We were going down the lake when all of a sudden he looks back and there goes his worm back over board. By the time I get the boat slowed down and turn around, we can’t see the bag. From that moment on I was hoping that we would do well enough to cash a cheque so that he could recoup some of that loss. We didn’t and for that I still feel bad every time I think about it.
