White Lake

Our third top on the BAA event trail takes us to my favourite lake…. White Lake. The day started out alright, I went to a new spot first thing in the morning throwing spinnerbaits in 3-6 foot of water along some rice beds. Didn’t have any success with the exception of all the pike that I caught. Decided to pick up the trolling motor and head out to fish a couple of islands and some docks. I was catching lots of small fish 9 to 11 inches. It was 10:30 and I hadn’t put a keeper bass in the box yet.

As a tournament angler you want to be able to improve each time you go out on the water and for me this season I wanted to try and get rid of the panic mode that I get into if I don’t have a limit of fish by 11:00. This is something that I have been working on this season and White Lake is a great place to do that. At least for me this year it was.

I started catching them on 6” black n’ blue tiki- stick. I had it rigged Texas style but instead of it being weightless, I added a 1/16th oz finesse worm sinker. With the winds blowing a little I found that the tiki-stick was just sitting on the top of the water and not sinking. I with a 1/8th oz sinker but it was sinking too fast and I wasn’t getting the bites. Once I switched to the 1/16th oz sinker I started getting the bites.

It turned out to be a hard days fishing for me and I ended up with a limit of 4 bass weighing in 7.17 lbs for a 7th place finish. I grew a little more as an angler with this tournament, which is a good thing, but I was still upset with the results.

I will be returning to this lake for the BAA Classic on October 1st to the 2nd. I hope to make some major improvements then. Until then, fish hard and take lots of pictures.
