Rideau River, Kars, ON

July 2nd the first event in the Bass Anglers Association tournament series. This weekend we launched out of the RA Center in Kars ON. The day started out a with cool a little windy. The water temperature at the launch was 61 degrees. Sunny day with some clouds and a high of 83 degrees. We took off and went to my first usual spot to fish the inside of a weed line and a point. Started throwing a buzzbait and then a spinnerbait. Caught nothing and decided to go up the river towards Burritt's Rapids. Again fishing the weedline in about 6-10 foot of water. Throwing the spinnerbait parallel to the weedline. This allows to bait to be in the strike zone for a longer period of time and increasing my chances of getting a strike. By 7:45 AM I caught my biggest fish of the day 3.12 lbs large mouth. By 8:40 AM I got my 4th fish (tournament limit) and then tried to catch the big one that would help me out. Had a great day on the water quantity wise. I caught between 13-15 bass and a few pike as well.

Went to the weigh in with a 4 fish limit weighing in 11.43 lbs. Good enough of second place. Afterwards we had a bar b que where some of the anglers stayed and we shared stories of how the big one got away. :-)

Next event is July 16th on Mississippi Lake in Carleton Place. Let's hope that we can continue to improve as the season goes and perhaps win of these events some day. All in all it was a great day.
