Bass Angler

75 kids had a JumpStart of a day

13th Annual Peter Larmand Outdoors Kids Fishing Tournament benefitting JumpStart is a wrap for another year.  75 young anglers ranging from 3 to 17 years of age participated this past Saturday May 11th, 2019 down at Lower Reach Park in Smiths Falls, ON.  The weather was sunny but cool but from what I could see there was a lot of smiling face, some of which were even painted.

Each year we try to bring new activities for the young anglers to do along with fishing.  Returning this year was Nicola Thomson putting her artistic talents to work doing face painting for the kids, even parents were getting involved as well.  This year she was accompanied by Heather Currie-Whiting, getting more kids’ and some adults faces painted.

Again this year we had the delicious desserts of BK Waffles.  Keep an eye out for these people at an event near you.

This we expanded our lure education for the young anglers with Jeremy Parker showing the kids how to tie flies and Shane Brisson from Bass ON Lures talking about how crankbait and soft plastic baits are made.

We were even fortunate to have the Regional Manager Cam from Jump Start and Ann from Mark’s on hand to help as well as raffle off Jump Start kids shoes.

This event is longer than just the 10am-1:00pm that everyone sees.  There is a lot that goes on before and after the young anglers arrive and leave.  There is setup, tear down and then there is the volunteers that help out during the event like registration, scoring, cooks, greeters.  This would not be possible without the best volunteers and they are:

  • Maria-Elena
  • Andre
  • Katrine
  • Andrew
  • Laurie
  • Heather
  • Brenda
  • Hugh
  • Kevin
  • John
  • Nick
  • John
  • Robert
  • Louis
  • Victoria
  • Tanya
  • William
  • Natasha

Thank you for all of your hard work and support as this would not be possible with your help.

Lastly, I want to thank the person that stands beside me in everything that I do.  She keeps me in line when I get sidetracked. She is my rock, my wife Robin.  Without her support, there would not be an event.

As customary, the prize table was full of wonderful prizes for the young anglers.  Prizes like RC cards, Nerf products, Barbie, Star Wars action figures, cars, gift certificates, t-shirts, hats and of course fishing gear.  If you think this is great, you should have seen the adult raffle prize table.  We had a laptop, monitor, tablet, gift certificates, camping chairs and new this year we had a free raffle for a planter for Mother’s Day.

These prizes would not be possible without the support of the business community in and around our area.  So a BIG thank you goes out to the following sponsors:

We are already planning on making 2020 even better and turn this into an event for the whole family as well as a fishing tournament.  So stay tuned to social media as we will continue to make our event the best it can be in the region.  Lord willing we will see you and your friends next year!
