Big Rideau Lake August 25/07

Last regular season stop for the year, Big Rideau Lake. My home lake, a lake that I have not won a tournament on in any series. This was a tournament that I wanted to win badly. This win would finish off the season on a positive note.

We spent the entire week before the tournament pre fishing for this event. We were able to pre fish in different weather conditions, which is a good thing because you never know what the weather will be like on tournament day. We had a couple of decent days and found some new locations. We were excited about getting out there and the weather was perfect. A little wind in the morning and then it picked up in the afternoon.

Off we go to our first spot and 20 minutes into it we have 2 fish in the box with one being over 3 lbs. Off to another spot that we found during pre fish and we pull out another 3+ lbs for a total of 3 in the box by 10:30. It's noon and we still need 2 more fish. We head off to the big lake to a spot that I usually have some success on and did really well during pre fish. 2 casts after getting there and I get a pickup. I set the hook and the rod doesn't move. I get to the boat and in the net. Turns out to be 5.24 lbs largemouth. All excited and really pumped. We continue to fish the area for another 15 minutes and decide to move on.

We get to this spot and what worked for us during pre fish wasn't working now. The winds had picked up a lot and it was making it difficult to fish the area thoroughly. I knew that the fish should still be there but had just moved away from the area. We made a small adjustment and there we caught another largemouth over 3 lbs. Now we have a limit but with one of them being 1 1/2 lbs. We continue fishing the area and we land our 4th 3+ lbs fish. Allowing us to cull the pounder adn giving us a weight of over 18 lbs.

It's off to the weigh in. Excited with our weight and we thought that we have a chance at winning this thing. We get to the stage and they announce our weight 18.88 lbs. The big fish for us was 5.24 lbs good enough for third largest fish for the event. After all was said and done, we finished 2nd. Our best finish in a regular season Renegade event. A great way to end off the season.
